Along the way
The Pirate Queen takes us to sixteenth-century Ireland and into the world of Grace O’Malley, a woman who refuses to live by anyone else’s rules. There’s marriage and betrayal, family and loyalty, danger and ambition, and, of course, the sea. Grace’s story is one of strength, independence and fighting fiercely for the people and places she loves. So what are we pouring while we read it? Syrah. 🍷 Syrah just feels like Grace. It’s bold and a little wild, with dark fruit flavors like blackberry and plum layered with pepper, smoke, herbs and earth. It has enough depth for a story rooted in history, but there’s also an edge to it that feels right for a woman commanding ships and refusing to quietly accept the life she’s been handed. This isn’t the book for a soft, delicate red. This wine has a little fight in it...and so does Grace. 🍷 The Read: The Pirate Queen by Ariel Lawhon 🍷 The Red: Syrah
